The Jumbo circus
was scheduled to open on 2nd January 1979 at the Parade grounds, opposite to the Red Fort at New Delhi. C.H.Rajan and T.Chandrashekharan the veteran managers of Jumbo circus had gone to Mrs Gandhi”s residance. C.H.Rajan told Mrs.Gandhi that they had come to seek her blessings and to fulfil their lifetime ambition of having a photograph with her. But the security staff had barred the photographer who had accompanied them. At that moment Mrs.Gandhi ordered her security staff to allow the photographer to take some photographs. C.H.Rajan is presently working as Senior Manager of Great Bombay Circus. K.K.Chandrashekharan is presently an active Circus Promoter in Chennai.

E.K.Nayanar, the former Chief Minister of Kerala visited the Circus in 1997, at Putharikandam Maidanam, Trivandrum . Cracking a joke, creating a mood of laughter and happiness is an art which was a typical aspect of his conversation. His sense of humour was the secret of his magnetism. Ajay Shankar gave a memorandum to E.K.Nayanar highlighting the need to increase the pension of the circus artistes. E.K.Nayanar readily agreed and gave orders for the same. There was a considerable increase in the pension which benefited nearly five hundred families in Tellicherry. As E.K.Nayanar hailed from Kannur he had that extra concern and consideration for the Circus Industry.
